Some of the cookies below are optional. You can accept or decline those using the controls on this page; we do not automatically show a cookie popup. Optional analytics stays off until you choose it. Your existing choice is remembered. Declining does not disable sign-in or the community’s existing invitation and referral features.

To keep you signed in — one session cookie, until you log out.
To remember how you like the site — your language, timezone for event dates, and whether you chose the light or dark palette.
To give you your free read — the one post you can read without an account is remembered for a week, so it stays free when you come back. It holds a post id and nothing about you.
To credit whoever brought you — if you arrived from someone’s post or invitation, that is remembered for a week so the community can see which of its writing brings people. It is used once, when you join, and then the cookie is deleted. The join record retains that credit. Community managers can see referral information for their members; public attribution displays show counts, not a list of the people who joined.
To understand signup friction, if you accept — a broad arrival source, page type and device category are remembered for up to seven days. If you create an account, that small record can be attached to it until you remove it or close the account. Vercel also measures broad page categories without account identifiers. Private paths, gift tokens and query strings are excluded.

Blocking the essential ones will stop you being able to sign in. Clearing them signs you out and resets your language and theme.
